Saturday night is always a favorite of mine, but not for the reasons you might think. When you think of Saturday night, you may think of going out with friends and having a wicked night. Perhaps, you might revel in it because it’s finally the weekend. For me, Saturday night represents finally sitting down and relaxing with the husband. There is just nothing I enjoy more than lounging on the couch, snuggled up to my man and watching a movie. I was a little perturbed last Saturday when my husband suggested we watch Ocean’s Twelve. Having seen in years ago, I was hoping we could watch something new. But, the husband insisted that I’d really enjoy watching it again so we pressed play much to my chagrin.
Maybe it was because I was a few glasses of wine in, but it took me a while to realize why my husband was adamant about us watching this movie. It wasn’t until the scene where George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon were in a coffee shop with Robbie Coltrane that it dawned me. Wait a second, they filmed this scene in Amsterdam! I couldn’t believe my eyes as they settled into a table at the Dampkring coffeeshop. Okay husband, now I’m on to you and understand your ways!
My newfound wanderlust and love of Amsterdam has taken up quite a bit of my time lately. Spending hours researching locations and planning out the perfect vacation has led me to reading about the Dampkring coffeeshop many times. Famed for its interior design, atmosphere, and quality cannabis – it’s been on my must-see list during our planned walking tour. How exciting it was to see the hustle and bustle of it live in the movie scene. You instantly get a laid back vibe with a hint of seduction while watching the scene, focusing in on the red hue of light on the actor’s faces. Never has a coffeeshop looked more inviting.
As someone who is new to the world of Amsterdam’s cannabis coffeeshops, I appreciate the emphasis that Dampkring puts on creating a welcome environment. Living in Florida where cannabis has not been legalized, the topic seems taboo. The concept of walking into a coffeeshop and being able to buy cannabis seems so scandalous. Hidden and darkly lit coffee shops can highlight that impression, and scare off us tourists. However, Dampkring’s location only highlights further the causality of the products they offer. Dampkring is located near the Amsterdam flower market, and only a mere 10 minute walk away from central station.
After watching that scene in Ocean’s Twelve, it has only heightened my need to experience this coffeeshop in person. Wanderlust is kicking into high gear now and I’m counting down the chance to experience Amsterdam, and the walking tour that will lead me straight to Dampkring’s doorstep. But for now, I’ll practice my ordering technique while I wait to save me the embarrassment of sounding like a tourist.
PS: To all of you cat lovers out there, make sure to say “Hello!” to Bowie while you are in the shop.
